GUYRA

Guyra is situated half way between Sydney and Brisbane on the Northern Tableland; it has a population of 2,200 people and a total shire population of 4,800. At 1,330 metres above sea level, Guyra is the highest town on the Tablelands and only a 3 hour drive to Coffs Harbour. The Guyra district has a diverse range of activities and facilities including trout fishing, farm stays, bird watching, fossicking, bush walking, national parks, waterfalls and scenic picnic areas.

Stay a day, a week or the rest of your life – Guyra has lots to offer.

ARMIDALE

Armidale is a 30 minute drive south of Guyra. It has a unique blend of culture, state of the art technology, educational diversity and natural beauty. With a population of 25,000 people from 53 nationalities it is a very culturally diversified community. Educationally the community is well provided for with the University of New England and the Armidale TAFE offering numerous courses and degrees.

NATIONAL PARKS

The Guyra/Armidale area is extremely popular with bush walkers and campers. The spectacular gorge country of the New England National Park is world heritage listed. The Oxley Wild Rivers National Park is home to rare and endangered plant species and well as an extensive range of birds and animals. Guy Fawkes National Park offers sights and sounds of the Ebor Falls while Cathedral Rock and Dorrigo National Park offer a range of bush walks options.

EVENTS

Guyra Lamb & Potato Festival – January

Held under the lovely shade of the kilometre long strip of magnificent Elm trees that line the New England Highway the festival hosts over 40 speciality stalls selling items ranging from plants, clothes and wooden toys to tools and local produce. There are musicians playing daily and the very popular rail trike rides, the festival also hosts an annual antique machinery display and swap meet which is one of the biggest in Australia. The festival is famous for its Lamb and Potato based meals and is well worth a visit while in the New England.

Annual Guyra Show – February

The Guyra Show attracts many people from far and wide.  The pavilion exhibits are always of exceptional quality and a number of entries over the years have gone on to win at zone level and at the Sydney Royal Easter Shows.
